Discover the work of Katherine Ellen Foley, a writer and speaker dedicated to empathetic public health communications.

I’m Katherine. I help scientists and public health experts reach audiences beyond the ivory tower.

I’m a writer and speaker who puts audiences first.

I use values-based storytelling to write and speak about the importance of leading with empathy in public health.

  • I write pieces geared for lay and technical audiences, and I speak publicly about a variety of topics related to public health

  • I’ve spent over 10 years writing professionally. Most of those years were spent as a journalist writing for outlets including Politico and Quartz.

  • I center my audience in all my writing. Facts and accuracy are always important, but on their own don’t generate feeling and action. Compelling storytelling requires understanding readers’ values and using empathy to construct a narrative.

This is my personal webpage where you can learn about the totality of my work; it reflects my views only, and not necessarily those of my employer.
