It’s nice to meet you.

I’m a writer with a background in scientific and medical journalism who puts readers first. My work meets audiences at all levels while maintaining accuracy. My goal is to use my skills to generate empathy for underserved or marginalized populations.

I'm currently the Director of Media at Global Action to End Smoking, an independent, U.S. nonprofit 501(c)(3) grantmaking organization whose mission is to end combustible tobacco use, which remains the leading preventable cause of death globally. In this role, I write pieces geared for lay and technical audiences, and I speak publicly about a variety of topics.

My educational background is in science and medical journalism. I’ve spent over 10 years writing professionally. Most of those years were spent as a journalist writing for outlets including Politico and Quartz.

I center my audience in all my writing. Facts and accuracy are always important, but on their own don’t generate feeling and action. Compelling storytelling requires understanding readers’ values and using empathy to construct a narrative.

I’ve written for Politico, Quartz, Nature Methods, The Atlantic, and more. Click here to view my one-page resume.

I currently live in Washington, D.C. Outside of writing, I enjoy reading, running, and trying to earn the respect of my cats. I love them regardless of what they think of me.

I also keep a monthly newsletter called Scrap Facts. It came about from my health reporter days when I wanted to find a way to give life to the many fascinating tidbits that got cut from my stories. Now it’s evolved into a space where I write about what I learn wherever I can. Subscribe here.

This is my personal webpage where you can learn about the totality of my work; it reflects my views only, and not necessarily those of my employer.
